Pravati Parida, the deputy chief minister of Odisha, stated on Sunday that the Shakti app, which Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled on Saturday, will revolutionize the state’s efforts to protect women. Parida said these things during a conference celebrating the second anniversary of the founding of Odisha Women in Media (OWM), a group that represents more than 200 women in the state’s media industry. “Rape survivors will no longer have to suffer the trauma of repeatedly recounting their ordeal before lawmakers and the judiciary,” the Deputy Chief Minister said in her inaugural address.
Parida went on to say that the government intends to create a court where women would serve in all capacities, including those of judge, attorney, and court employees. The goal of this project is to establish a secure environment where survivors may talk openly and honestly. Parida emphasized that women’s safety must be a top issue because they are now in leadership positions in many organizations. She assured them of the government’s assistance and encouraged female journalists to carry out safety audits in their cities to evaluate their safety throughout the upcoming year.
She also urged OWM to help people who cannot afford journalism training and to concentrate on developing the skills of female journalists. Journalists Sobha Surin and Sumitra Sahoo were given the OWM Awards for Excellence in Journalism in recognition of the event, and they each received a Rs 5,000 cash reward. Parida also introduced “Arohi,” the OWM yearly magazine, alongside renowned journalists Uma Sudhir and Alka Sahani. Football player Pusparani Bhuyan, Jayanti Maharana (Balasore), and Bhagabati Sahu (Jajpur) were among the grassroots female entrepreneurs who shared their success and hardship tales at a special session. Sahani and Sudhir also talked about the difficulties experienced by female journalists.
