The Odisha Government has sealed the office of the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Member Aparajita Sarangi for around 15 days due to allegedly violating the norms of COVID-19.
Recently a video of Aparajita Sarangi celebrated her birthday, where she was surrounded by many women not wearing masks or maintaining social distancing and enjoying singing and dancing. After that, there was a controversy as it was a complete violation of COVID-19 norms, especially where Odisha’s cases are at peak. Dibya Shankar Mishra, Odisha Home Minister, wrote a letter to the Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai pressing home to take some serious actions against her to celebrate her birthday in such a manner ignoring the guidelines of Covid issued by the National Disaster Management Act. He also requested MR. Rai to bring this to matter to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister. Already around 109 people and 5 COVID health workers have lost their lives, and due to Sarangi’s behaviour, more lives should not be endangered.
But this is not the first time Aparajita Sarangi has been violating the guidelines and issued by both Central and State Government. Odisha Home Minister stated that this is not the first occasion where the MP has broken the guidelines for COVID. In addition to repeated advisories, warnings and booking of at least three cases against the MP for violation of COVID guidelines, there is no improvement in her behaviour. This negligence behaviour will represent a demotivation towards the COVID warriors and an offence to the people who have lost their life due to this virus.
With the allegation, MP Sarangi stated – I admit that on October 8 last, some women forced me to celebrate my birthday for a few minutes at my office. For nearly two minutes, I lowered my mask below my nose to interact with them. However, the government has vindictively sealed my office. I will write a letter to chief minister Naveen Patnaik and attach all these 14 pictures to him to seal his own party office and actions against the violators. I will wait for 15 days to see his honesty”.
