The remarkable transformation of Demon Slayer’s Tanjiro Kamado from a vengeful figure to a figure representing compassion.Fans all across the world have been enthralled by the sympathetic protagonist Tanjiro Kamado of the well-known anime and manga series Demon Slayer.Recent findings from an interview with Tatsuhiko Katayama, the main editor of Demon Slayer, bring to light Tanjiro’s early versions and the crucial adjustments that defined his personality.
It was revealed in the exclusive interview with MANGA Plus that Koyoharu Gotoge’s first comic, “Ka Gari Gari,” served as the inspiration for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.Swords, demons, and a realistic environment were all there in the original artwork. Later on, it underwent transformation into the opening pitch known as “Kisatsu no Nagare,” which featured the introduction of well-known figures like Tanjiro and Muzan Kibutsuji. However, this version was rejected because it lacked humorous relief and had a too serious tone.
Notably, the lead character from Demon Slayer didn’t always have his infamous scar and contentious earrings.
Tanjiro’s early iterations lacked the compassion and kindness that come to define him in the concluding series and were instead exclusively motivated by the need for retribution. To make the series more enticing, the editor emphasised the necessity for a shift. It was necessary for the bearer of the black blade to transform into a source of kindness and compassion in the shadows. The Tanjiro that fans have come to adore is the product of this transformational change.
