In a stampede that occurred on Sunday in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, during the opposition Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) distribution of Sankranti presents to the underprivileged, three ladies were killed and several more were injured. The incident is the second of its kind in less than a week, and it took place after TDP president and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had departed the location after kicking off the event.

On December 28, a stampede at Naidu’s road show in Kundukur town, Nellore district, claimed the lives of eight persons, including two ladies. The stampede on Sunday happened as the TDP was giving out Sankranti presents to the less fortunate in the names of NTR Janata Vastralu and Chandranna Kanuka.A woman passed away immediately, and two other people perished at Government General Hospital.Senior police officers went to the location. The initiative, according to an officer, was put on hold shortly after the stampede.

The kits would be supplied to the beneficiaries’ homes who received tokens, according to TDP leaders.

There was a long line of women waiting to accept the gifts. The stampede was caused when some of the women broke through the line and attempted to advance quickly.
