The German government has agreed to compensate victims of discrimination before 2000 because of homosexuality in the German military.  Soldiers will be compensated with such allegations.  After decades of discrimination, Secretary of Defense Annegret introduced a government apology two months ago in Bundeswehr, presenting a document entitled “Systematic Discrimination” in 1955-200.  Which was sealed by the cabinet on Wednesday.

“We cannot solve the problems facing the people because of this,” the defense minister told reporters ahead of the cabinet’s announcement.  So I want to set an example in this direction.  The sentence will be lifted by a military court and a fine of up to 3,000 euros will be paid for each of the allegations, she said.

Soldiers who have been fired, promoted and deprived of their responsibilities will be compensated for such allegations.  It is estimated that at least 1,000 soldiers have been sentenced to life in prison.  Bundeswehr’s LGBT community has welcomed the announcement of the compensation.  However, they acknowledged that the amount of compensation of government were not enough for them.  The defense minister, on the other hand, is hopeful that this dark chapter in the history of the armed forces will end forever.
