The second phase of corona is on the rise across the country, with states like Delhi and Maharashtra short of oxygen. However, there is no shortage of oxygen in Odisha or there will be any in the future, said DMET director Dr CBK Mohanty.
Informing the media, Dr. Mohanty said that the government was regularly supplying oxygen to 24 suppliers. The amount of oxygen they were giving was still in force. In addition, the Rourkela Steel Plant produces 600 metric tonnes of oxygen per day, while last year our demand for Odisha was only 30 metric tonnes per day. So he doesn’t think there is a shortage of oxygen now or in the future. The state now has adequate treatment for Covid 19.
While we now need only 31 Covid Hospitals, we have already set up 70 Covid Hospitals. As many patients as are now admitted to Covid Hospital, they occupy 20% of the total bed. The remaining 80 percent of the general beds are vacant, while 14 percent of patients are in the ICU and 10 percent in the ventilator. In addition, the Chief Minister has already ordered immediate action. “So there is no shortage of infrastructure,” he said.
On the other hand, according to the health department, 165 infected patients are currently being treated in the general bed, while six are in the ICU. The daily oxygen requirement is 23.8 metric tonnes per day, with a production capacity of 124.8 metric tonnes per day. In addition, the LMO storage tank will be operational on the premises of Berhampur Medical College and Hospital by the 10th of next month. Steps have also been taken to install LMO storage tanks in 15 other places.
