A Career Built on Passion and Excellence
Souvagya’s foray into the hospitality industry began after completing his hotel management course at the prestigious Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) and pursuing an MBA in Marketing. His career started with The Oberoi Group, one of India’s most renowned luxury hotel chains. In 1994, he joined the Mayfair Hotels & Resorts Group, a decision that would shape his future. Under his leadership, Mayfair transformed from a single property into a network of twelve luxury hotels and resorts across India.
Reflecting on his time at Mayfair, Souvagya fondly recalls, “I have seen Mayfair grow from just one to twelve. This is where I grew as I was given the freedom to express my ideas and manage accordingly. I am heartily thankful to Shri Dilip Ray – Chairman of MAYFAIR Group for all the support and mentorship.”
Souvagya’s tenure at Mayfair, especially as Executive Director from 2012 to 2020, was marked by his focus on enhancing operational efficiency and elevating the brand’s industry standing. His strategies in pricing, marketing, and operational management helped position Mayfair among the best in luxury hospitality.
A New Chapter: Leading Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts
In April 2021, Souvagya took a bold step, assuming the role of Managing Director at Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts. The brand, known for its exceptional luxury resorts, already operated in the Maldives but under Souvagya’s leadership, the brand is now expanding across India, Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. With a vision to dominate the emerging luxury resort market in South Asia, he has made it his mission to explore new frontiers for Atmosphere.
Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts is rapidly gaining prominence with its impressive portfolio, which includes THE OZEN COLLECTION, COLOURS OF OBLU, and By Atmosphere. One of its flagship properties, OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI, was recently named the world’s best all-inclusive resort in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2023. Known for its exceptional service and commitment to providing unforgettable leisure experiences, Atmosphere’s ethos of ‘Joy of Giving’ has set it apart from its competitors.
“Our focus is to explore across India and wait for the right opportunities,” says Souvagya. “India’s tourism potential is immense, and the global hospitality industry is keen to leverage this by establishing a presence in the country.”
A Commitment to Odisha’s Tourism Growth
What sets Souvagya apart from many in the industry is his deep connection to his roots. A proud Odia, Souvagya is passionate about promoting and developing Odisha’s tourism and hospitality sector. Under his leadership, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts has already signed multiple management contracts for luxury hotels and resorts across the state. With an eye on key tourist destinations like Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, and Chilika Lake, he plans to tap into Odisha’s untapped potential by creating luxury resort experiences that showcase the state’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
“We are delighted to see the growing confidence in Odisha’s tourism sector. With its rich heritage and scenic landscapes, Odisha offers unique opportunities for luxury tourism. We are keen to bring our brand to the state and develop world-class resorts,” Souvagya states.
His commitment to Odisha’s development is not just professional but also personal. Through foreign direct investment (FDI) and collaborations with investors, Souvagya aims to bring international-level luxury resorts to the state, contributing to its economy and tourism infrastructure.

Souvagya’s contributions to the hospitality industry have not gone unnoticed. He has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious ‘Fellow of IIHM’ by the International Institute of Hotel Management and the ‘Honorary Diploma for Outstanding Contribution and Excellence in Tourism & Hospitality’ by the World Congress of Poets. His name has consistently appeared on Hotelier India’s Power List, and in 2018, he was honored as the ‘Hotelier of the Year’ at the BBC Good Food and Food Food Awards.
His involvement with industry associations such as FHRAI, HRAEI, and the Odisha State Tourism Promotion Council has further cemented his status as a leader in the hospitality and tourism sector. By collaborating with these associations, Souvagya continues to shape the future of Indian hospitality, ensuring that Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts remains at the forefront of the industry.

As Souvagya looks ahead, he remains committed to the principles that have guided his career—innovation, excellence, and sustainability. Under his leadership, Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts is on track to open 25 properties by 2025, focusing on prime destinations across India and South Asia. His long-term vision for the brand involves creating bespoke luxury experiences that blend seamlessly with local cultures and ecosystems, ensuring sustainable growth for both the company and the communities it serves.
“We evaluate every potential destination for its unique attractions, connectivity, and the supportive policy environment,” says Souvagya. “Our goal is to create resorts that not only offer world-class luxury but also contribute to the preservation of the environment and the local community.”
A Family Man and Nature Enthusiast
Beyond the corporate world, Souvagya is a devoted family man. His family, consisting of his wife, two daughters, and mother, is his pillar of support. He finds tranquility in his terrace garden, a sanctuary where he can relax, reflect, and spend quality time with loved ones. The garden overlooks the serene Chandaka Wildlife Sanctuary, which has been a source of inspiration for him, especially since the pandemic.
“My terrace garden is my favorite place to be. It allows me to declutter my mind and enjoy the simple pleasures of life,” he shares.
