Trump Announces Plans to Build U.S. ‘Iron Dome’ Missile Shield, Urges Immediate Action

President Donald Trump Announces Plans to Sign Executive Order for U.S. Iron Dome System

On Monday, newly sworn-in President Donald Trump revealed he would sign an executive order to begin developing the Iron Dome, the advanced air defense system used by Israel. The system, created by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, is designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells aimed at populated areas.

Trump had pledged to implement the system during his presidential campaign, and now, as president, he intends to bring that promise to fruition. The Iron Dome has been proven effective in real-world situations, such as intercepting threats during the Israel-Hamas conflict that started on October 7, 2023, as well as the Iranian strikes on Israel in October 2024.

Donald Trump Urges Immediate Construction of U.S. Iron Dome Missile Defense System

“We must start the construction of a cutting-edge Iron Dome missile defense system without delay,” AFP reported Donald Trump stating at a Republican congressional retreat in Miami, coinciding with the first day of new Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in office.

Hegseth, speaking to reporters upon arriving at the Pentagon, emphasized that his first day would be packed with action. He revealed that additional executive orders were forthcoming, including measures to remove DEI policies within the Pentagon, reinstate troops dismissed due to COVID mandates, and accelerate the development of the Iron Dome for the U.S. “This is happening quickly,” he added.
