Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin following a record-breaking aerial assault on Ukraine, calling him “absolutely CRAZY” and warning of potential consequences for Russia’s continued aggression.
Russia launched its largest drone and missile attack since the start of the war, with 367 strikes overnight hitting several Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv. The offensive, which came shortly after a high-profile prisoner swap, left at least 13 people dead.
In remarks to reporters and a subsequent post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump condemned the assault and said he was “absolutely” considering stronger sanctions against Russia. “He’s sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don’t like it at all,” Trump said, adding that Putin “has gone absolutely CRAZY” and is “needlessly killing a lot of people.”
Trump also suggested that Putin’s ambitions extend far beyond eastern Ukraine. “I’ve always said that he wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece of it. And if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia,” he wrote.
The former president did not spare Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy from criticism either, stating that Zelenskyy’s rhetoric was “causing problems” and warning him to “stop.”
Reiterating a long-held position, Trump insisted the war would have never occurred under his administration. “This is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s war — not Trump’s,” he said. “I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires that have been started through gross incompetence and hatred.”
Trump’s comments came after global agencies confirmed Russia’s latest assault as the most extensive air attack since the invasion began, marking a dramatic escalation in the ongoing conflict.
