Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2021 in the parliament to which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed his happiness by stating that the allocation for health, particularly vaccination to fight against world deadliest virus- Coronavirus is a tremendous step.
CM Patnaik also stated that the appearance of both Mamata and Mission Shakti in Union Budget is the next reasonable move towards women empowerment and reservation in Lok Sabha and State Assemblies and that the Odisha government will continue to fight for this.
He also said that after Odisha’s Mamata scheme was affirmed by Union Government from 2011-2012, replication of State’s flagship women empowerment initiative Mission Shakti clearly explicates that Odisha sets a benchmark for India. He further added that this is the first budget in post-Covid-19 crises and there are lots of new hurdles which this budget is assumed to address.
He also pointed some of the crucial points like the focus on the capital investment to push growth, the reintroduction of the developmental financial institution, the allocation for Covid vaccine, industry and sector-specific interventions offer hope if matched with allocation, bold decision to expand a fiscal deficit to provide growth impetus and a medium and long term vision for ‘self-reliant India’, the regional satrap remarked.
Nevertheless, Odisha would be hit by the drastic reduction of share in central taxes by about Rs 10,840 crores for the current year and as per the guidance of the 15th Finance Commission, the horizontal share will decrease from 4.629 per cent to 4.528 per cent for coming 5 years.
CM expressed his happiness by stating that he is happy to note that the Union Budget has turned green with the digital budget like Odisha has been following from last year.
