Chief Secretary Anu Garg instructed all departments to carry out advance planning and coordinated action to guarantee uninterrupted agricultural activities and water availability throughout the state as the Odisha government reviewed its readiness for the Kharif crop season 2026 and the potential impact of El Niño on Monday. The state of the southwest monsoon rains, seasonal projections, and backup plans for potential negative effects resulting from El Niño conditions were all covered during a high-level discussion at Lok Seva Bhawan.
Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department; Shubha Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department; Sachin Ramchandra Yadav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department; Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Cooperation Department and Special Relief Commission; Dr. Manorama Mohanty, IMD Regional Director; the Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, as well as senior officials from various departments attended the meeting.

She directed departments to continuously monitor rainfall patterns, reservoir water levels, agricultural activities and water resources while ensuring advance contingency planning.
