Vedanta Aluminium & Power Business which is India’s largest producer of aluminium won two awards at the prestigious National Energy Conservation Awards) 2020 (NECA 2020) for exemplary efforts in energy conservation, technology adoption, and innovative solutions.
The NECA Award’s participation includes the best in business from various critical industry sectors. The Award is also instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and the Government of India. this year due to the COVID-19 protocol of social distancing, the event was organized on a virtual platform.
As per the reports, Vedanta Ltd’s Jharsuguda (Odisha) Smelter-I bagged first prize in the Aluminium (Large) Sector while Vedanta Ltd., Lanjigarh (Odisha) was topper in Aluminium (Small) Sector. Over the past three years, all the units have launched around 80 initiatives to scale up energy efficiency.
After winning the award, Ajay Kapur, CEO of Aluminium & Power and MD of Commercial, Vedanta Ltd. expressed by stating- “Vedanta strives to enable its communities in the areas where it operates to become empowered and self-reliant participants in the economic progress of the country. Winning the coveted National Energy Conservation Awards has bolstered our commitment to emerging as the world’s best, lowest cost, most energy-efficient, and sustainable aluminum producer.”

Vedanta Aluminium & Power produced almost half of India’s aluminum or 1.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in the 2020 financial year.
