Violence Over Controversial Social Media Post In Bhadrak: Internet Service Suspended, Nine Detained

Internet access has been halted following violence that broke out on Friday night in the Santhia neighbourhood of the Bhadrak district due to a divisive social media post. According to the most recent information, to keep the district law and order, ten police platoons and countless policemen have been dispatched, along with the nine people who have been taken into custody. In addition, police car patrols and flag marches are happening, along with checks and barriers. Events are being closely watched.

Senior authorities are keeping an eye on the situation, conducting flag marches, and having talks with the peace committee. These officials include the DIG, Bhadrak SP, and the District Collector. District Collector Dilip Routrai, DIG Satyajit Nayak, Bhadrak MLA Sitansu Sekhar Mohapatra, Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Barun Guntupalli, Additional District Magistrate Santanu Mohanty, and other law enforcement and administrative officials were present at a critical meeting that was taking place at the Puruna Bazar police station in the meantime.

The seminar included tactics for capturing those responsible for acts of violence and the dissemination of offensive material. Internet services have been suspended for 48 hours in order to stop the transmission of inflammatory content and false information in light of the current sensitive circumstances. It should be noted that Puruna Bazar and the adjacent regions are subject to Section 144 enforcement in order to preserve peace and order.

Similar unrest was documented in Dhamnagar, where protesters from a particular community blocked roadways. As a result, four platoons of troops have been sent to enforce Section 144 in Dhamnagar Notified Area Council, Dobol, and the neighboring villages. It is important to note that on Friday, tension erupted in the Bhadrak district’s Santhia neighborhood following a violent demonstration against a contentious social media post that left three senior police personnel gravely injured. Amidst the pandemonium, the Bhadrak Tehsildar’s car sustained significant damage as well. Prohibition orders under section 163 BNSS have been imposed in the region by the district administration and will remain in effect indefinitely.
