It is a major blow for the offspinner and young allrounder of India Washington Sundar. Sundar who was a major factor in India winning in Australia last year and winning against England at home, missed major cricket during the second phase of last year, due to an injury sustained in his wrist. However, he was fit and finally called for the India South Africa ODI series which will be starting a week from now.
However, just a few days before the series Washington Sundar has been tested COVID positive. Therefore, unfortunately, he will not be able to take part in the ODI series, and his wait to return to international cricket continues. Jayant Yadav, another off-spinner has been added as a replacement.

Navdeep Saini has also been drafted into the side for a backup option for Mohammed Siraj. Siraj who received a hamstring injury in the second test has been unfit to play the third test. Thereby, for precautions, Saini has been added as a cover.
The rest squad remains the same. The ODI series will start on January 19th and will conclude on January 23rd. There will be 3 ODIS played within a span of four days.
