Whatsapp Expands Status Messaging To Reassure UK & US Users About Privacy

After a huge outrage by the public due to WhatsApp’s upcoming new privacy policy, now the messaging application has expanded its commitment to your private message to the users in the UK and US.

Recently after the new WhatsApp policy announcement, WhatsApp has been using its status feature to assuage fear in India, but now the messaging application has expanded its status message to the UK and US users also.

As per the reports, the messages read “One thing that isn’t new is our commitment to your privacy,” along with a reminder that “WhatsApp can’t read or listen to your conversations as they’re end-to-end encrypted.

The report further stated that WhatApp is going forward and the company will provide updates to people in the status so that people will come to know about all the details from WhatsApp directly. The firm update reaffirms that WhatsApp cannot see your messages, and neither can Facebook because they are protected by end-to-end encryption.

The Government of India has earlier asked WhatsApp to withdraw the new user data privacy policy as according to a survey, around 79 per cent of customers are re-considering their WhatsApp usage. Even the Internet Freedom Foundation has argued that WhatsApp has been necessitated by the imminent harm resulting from the implementation of WhatsApp’s new Privacy Policy scheduled to go into effect on February 8.

The application moved the date forward earlier this month, and now the Facebook-owned app has rescheduled the date from February 8 to now to May 15. The decision was taken as this will give time to the users to review the privacy policy properly.
