YFS Dhenkanal Chapter conducts cleaning and awareness drives at Bhagirathi Sagar

Youth for Sustainability Dhenkanal chapter conducted a cleaning and awareness drive at the Bhagirathi Sagar (Nuapokahari) situated in the middle of the town. A team of five volunteers from the Dhenkanal Chapter, accompanied by two laborers reached Nuapokhri at 6 am. Taking all the necessary precautions for covid-19, they started collecting plastic waste from both the open sides of the pond.A huge amount of plastic and other waste was recovered which was then disposed of at a safer place with the help of laborers. On the very next day, Posters warning people about the harmful impact of plastic on the pond and how it can affect both the water ecosystem and local citizens directly or indirectly were placed on all sides of the pond.Bamboos were used to place the very sustainability. The motive was to protect the pond, its marine life, as well as local citizens who might have got affected coming in contact with pond water directly or indirectly. The posters will create awareness among people and remind them not to pollute ponds again.
