What’s at stake in today’s Supreme Court decision in Uddhav v. Shinde?

The Supreme Court questioned the governor’s decision to authorise a floor test that sparked the crisis during the Uddhav v. Shinde case.On Thursday, the Supreme Court will issue its ruling regarding the political crisis in Maharashtra, putting an end to the year-long conflict between Uddhav Thackeray and ERknath Shinde. Eknath Shinde’s mutiny and the ensuing floor test will be decided upon, along with whether or not he is allowed to continue serving as chief minister. The Shiv Sena factions under Thackeray and Shinde are optimistic about winning.

Eknath Shinde’s declaration of a rebellion against Uddhav with the support of 40 MLAs set off the conflict. It took place in June 2022. The rebels arrived in Assam in June of last year, where they later asserted their right to work with the BJP to form the government. The true Shiv Sena was acknowledged to be the Eknath Shinde group.As a result of Uddhav Thackeray’s resignation, Eknath Shinde was appointed chief minister. The floor exam that was mandated by the then-Gov. BS Koshyari was not suspended by the Supreme Court. Eknath Shinde won the floor exam on July 4.The Uddhav group filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking for the MLAs who joined the Shinde side to be disqualified.The original Shiv Sena bow and arrow emblem, which belonged to Balasaheb Thackeray, was given to the Shinde group by the Election Commission.
