The Odisha Government recently accepted 18 important initiatives, including the “Mo Ghara” plan, as the BJD’s fifth term in government has already lasted for four years. The choice was made during the Cabinet meeting that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presided over.
In Odisha, the State Government approved 18 proposals for Mo Ghara (Government Housing Assistance in Rural Areas), a new housing program, in preparation for the 2024 elections, a week after the Cabinet was reshuffled and three new ministers were added to the council of ministers. The State Government will offer financial support through the “Mo Ghara” Yojana under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department to satisfy the aspirations of poor and lower middle-class households in rural regions.
The Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department’s housing assistance program will assist all such families who were turned away from the current housing programs due to strict eligibility requirements or due to insufficient funding, as well as those who had previously received housing assistance of a lower amount and are now looking to upgrade or expand their homes.
A recipient of the program may obtain a home loan up to Rs. 3 lakh, which may be repaid over the course of 10 years with the exception of a 1-year moratorium period in convenient payments. They have a choice between one of the four loan amount slabs: Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 1.5 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh, or Rs. 3 lakh. For around 4 lakh beneficiaries—1 lakh from each loan slab—over a two-year period, the government may shoulder charges totaling Rs 2150 crore.
