To promote digital literacy, TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL), a joint venture between Tata electricity and the government of Odisha for electricity distribution in Southern Odisha, is putting together Digital Literacy Campaigns throughout all of its licensed areas of operations. The firm has already educated 2,500 women Self Help Groups (WSHGs) as part of this effort, which seeks to provide rural communities the essential exposure to the digital world.
Through this campaign, TPSODL has already spoken with over 10 lakh people (covering almost 1,000 Gram Panchayats) and educated them about the advantages of exposure to the digital world, online payment options, digital incentives, access to government programs, and educational content through one-on-one conversations as well as group meetings at the village and block levels. Districts like Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kandhamal, and Boudh are included in these campaigns.
TPSODL representatives are conducting door-to-door campaigns to train rural youth, college-bound girls, Women Self Help Group (SHG) members, Panchayati Raj representatives, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers on various aspects of digital literacy in order to further ensure maximum outreach in some of the most remote locations. More than 300 small group meetings have been held to promote passion for digital literacy in various Panchayats in addition to household-level efforts.
“We are pleased that our Digital Literacy Campaign has given over 2,500 members of Women Self Help Groups more authority. We hope to close the digital gap and provide these individuals access to the full potential of the digital world by expanding their possibilities for digital learning. Through such activities, the TPSODL Team is assisting in the digital empowerment and socioeconomic advancement of the people, according to Mr. Amit Garg, Chief Executive Officer of TP Southern Odisha Distribution Ltd.
