When the earthquake struck at 11:11 p.m. (2211 GMT), the U.S. Geological Survey initially estimated its preliminary magnitude to be 6.8, with shaking continuing for several seconds. On the other hand, it was recorded by Morocco’s National Seismic Monitoring and Alert Network as a magnitude 7 earthquake.
