In connection with an investigation into the international plan by terror groups headquartered in Myanmar and Bangladesh to wage war against India by taking advantage of the ongoing ethnic strife in Manipur, a Delhi court has remanded one individual to NIA custody until October 3. In accordance with the anti-terror statute known as the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the NIA had already filed a suo moto case here on July 19.
Seiminlun Gangte, 51, was detained by the agency last week in Churachandpur, a hilly area of Manipur, and sent to Delhi on transit remand. The NIA spokesman said in a statement that the investigation had shown that certain terrorist commanders in India had conspired with militant organisations operating in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
“Their goal is to engage in acts of violence with the objective to sow discord among various ethnic groups and to declare war on the Indian government. To further the current ethnic unrest in Manipur, the aforementioned leadership has been funding the purchase of weapons, ammunition, and other types of terrorist hardware from terrorist organizations operating in the North Eastern states as well as from across the border, the spokesperson said.
