The Election Commission of India (ECI) received the relevant information about electoral bonds from the State Bank of India (SBI) by 5.30 pm, by the Supreme Court’s order. On March 15, the Commission will post the information for public viewing on its website. Additionally, it will open access to the sealed covers containing the electoral bonds files that were delivered to the Supreme Court.
During the Supreme Court’s Monday hearing on the SBI’s appeal over the previous ruling on the electoral bonds, the court informed the bank that it was seeking a straightforward disclosure pertaining just to the names of buyers and political parties. In response to the SBI’s request for additional time to match the identities of electoral bond buyers and recipient political parties, the Supreme Court issued a directive, stating, “We have asked you to do plain disclosure as per our judgment.” All the SBI needs to do is crack open the sealed covers, gather information, and provide it to the Election Commission.
The SBI is required to furnish information regarding each electoral bond that is acquired, the buyer’s identity, the type of bond, and the specifics of each bond that political parties redeem, including the date of encashment. The Supreme Court set a deadline for the SBI to deliver the electoral bond details, and the bank complied with the ruling.
