Odisha Budget 2024-25: 36 Per Cent Hike In Allocation For Agriculture & Allied Activities

The Finance Portfolio Holder, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, has set aside Rs 33,919 crore for Agriculture and Related Activities for 2024–25, a 36% increase over the Rs 24,829 crore allotted for the previous fiscal year, 2023–24. While Rs 5,000 crore has been set aside for the Samrudha Krushaka Yojana, Rs 1,935 crore has been set aside for a new program called “CM Kisan,” which will give farmers around the state extra money or top-ups to help them improve their financial situation.

In addition, CM Majhi has declared the commencement of the “Odisha Balabhadra Jaivik Chasa” yojana, which aims to encourage organic farming in the districts of Kandhamal and Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri. Majhi stated that the establishment of cold storage facilities in the state is a priority for his government. In this regard, a committee made up of the departments of MSME, Cooperation, Energy, and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment will be established in order to carry out a comprehensive plan. According to him, cold storage would first be established at the sub-divisional level and then at the block level in the upcoming years.

According to Majhi, block-level Krushi Samruddhi Kendras will be established to offer farmers a one-stop shop. A Krushi Samruddhi helpline would be established for farmers to offer all the information they need on crop production, financial support, and assistance with several agriculture-related activities. In an effort to establish Odisha as the millet capital of India and boost millet production and consumption, Majhi has suggested funding Sree Anna Abhiyan with a budget of Rs 649 crore. This will motivate millet growers in areas inhabited by tribes. A total of Rs 14,111 crore has been allotted by Majhi to different irrigation-related projects.
