Just after midnight, there was a “mob attack” on the institute in Kolkata, where doctors are protesting the rape and death of a junior medic last week.In response to the “mob attack” at the Kolkata-based institute, Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) for the BJP in the West Bengal assembly, requested on Thursday that central paramilitary personnel be stationed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He alleged that “goons” dispatched by the state’s Trinamool Congress government attacked the hospital to “destroy” evidence of last week’s rape-murder of a trainee doctor, an act that sparked outcry from the nation’s medical community, in a letter to Union home secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
Adhikari posted a screenshot of his letter on X (formerly Twitter) along with the statement, “The WB Govt and @KolkataPolice have turned RG Medical College and Hospital into a stinking quagmire by firstly allowing culprits to establish their fiefdom of crime and now allowing TMC goons to stomp upon the whole premises to destroy evidence (whatever was left of it) and scare the protesting Doctors.”The ex-member of Trinamool further claimed that at midnight, when the policemen “took refuge inside the toilets,” the “unruly” mob attempted to enter the girls’ hostel in a display of “perversity.”
