Over 6,900 Poachers Arrested For Killing & Trafficking Of 2,869 Wild Animals

According to information presented to the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday by Minister of Forests, Environment, and Climate Change Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia, over 6,900 poachers have been apprehended for the homicide and trafficking of 2,869 endangered species over the last ten years. In response to a question from Jeypore Taraprasad Bahinipati, a Congress MLA, the Minister informed the House that over the past ten years, law enforcement officials have detained 6,960 poachers and confiscated a variety of wild animal parts from them, including pangolins, beer, deer, sambar, and skins, nails, and horns of tigers.

The other things that were taken were kept safe at the Forest Range offices, according to Singkhuntia, while the seized elephant tusks were kept in the State government’s coffers. According to him, the Forest and Police departments have formed a joint task force by the State government to investigate cases of poaching of wild animals and take appropriate action.
