SAI To Open Five More Khelo India Centres In Odisha

Five new Khelo India Centers (KICs) will shortly open in five Odisha districts as part of a Central plan by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The new KICs in Odisha will open in the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, and Deogarh and will provide three distinct disciplines. The Government SVT High School and RK Government School in the districts of Gajapati and Jharsuguda will host the Khelo India Kho-Kho centers, while the Government Queen of the Mission High School in Ganjam district will host the Khelo India Basketball Center. In the districts of Deoghar and Nayagarh, the football centres will open at Teleibani PS High School and Narayana Government High School.

The Odisha government was recently notified by SAI of the centers’ launch following the project’s approval from the appropriate authority. Funds to operate the centers would be provided to the SAI, and within the next two months, coaches or mentors would be hired for the suggested centers. In each discipline, former champion athletes should be hired as instructors. In the meanwhile, organizations that follow the scheme’s rules or the corresponding former champion athletes should identify the talent pool. Every center had to have made an effort to maintain a trainee to female ratio of equals.

On 25 out of 30 districts in Odisha, 26 KICs in nine disciplines have been recognized; six of them have already commenced operations, according to Khelo India’s official website.
