Former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, who is contesting from the Kalkaji assembly seat, has emerged as the frontrunner in early trends, leading against Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Bidhuri, a senior leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has served as a Member of Parliament for South Delhi twice and as a Delhi MLA on three occasions. His political career spans decades, with him holding key positions, including district president of the BJP between 1997 and 2003, and vice president of Delhi BJP from 2003 to 2008.
However, Bidhuri’s campaign has been marred by several controversial remarks. In one of his speeches, he compared Atishi to a deer, criticizing her sudden appearance on the streets of Delhi during the election period. “The people of Delhi are suffering in the streets… Atishi never came to meet the people in the last four years, and now when the elections are here, she is roaming the streets of Delhi like a deer in the forest,” Bidhuri had remarked at a rally in Rohini. His comments have sparked significant backlash, with many accusing him of resorting to personal attacks to win votes.
Despite the controversies, early trends show Bidhuri gaining a strong lead in the Kalkaji constituency. This contest between the seasoned BJP leader and the AAP Chief Minister reflects the intense political battle in Delhi’s assembly elections, with both sides making last-minute efforts to win voter support.
