‘Dear D.R.’: The Extraordinary Life of Mining Tycoon D.R. Patnaik

BHUBANESWAR: The life and legacy of India’s celebrated mining magnate, D.R. Patnaik, have been encapsulated in a new biography, Dear D.R., which was officially launched at a grand event at Mayfair Convention on Tuesday. The book, authored by Dr. Sanjay Hati, was released by Achyuta Samanta, founder of KIIT & KISS, in the presence of distinguished guests from various fields.

 

 

Patnaik’s journey is a testament to resilience, overcoming adversity, and maintaining integrity in the face of challenges. From humble beginnings to building a mining empire, his story reflects the struggles and triumphs of an entrepreneur who refused to compromise on his principles. Despite being a victim of multiple scams, Patnaik never let betrayal define his path and remained steadfast in his commitment to ethical business practices.

 

Dr. Sanjay Hati, the author of Dear D.R., took three years to meticulously document Patnaik’s story, highlighting his hardships, dedication, and ultimate success. The biography aims to inspire future generations, offering an intimate glimpse into the entrepreneur’s personal and professional life.

 

The book launch saw an impressive gathering of eminent figures, including Odia University Chancellor Prof. Sabita Pradhan and former BPUT Vice-Chancellor Omkar Mohanty. Celebrated writer Dash Benhur, who presided over the event, described autobiographies as invaluable records of social history and emphasized the significance of Dear D.R. as a source of inspiration.

 

Adding to the evening’s cultural ambiance, renowned Odissi vocalist Sangita Panda delivered a stirring performance of Jeevan Pange Mo Bharich Kaali, setting an emotional tone for the event.

 

In an emotional speech, Patnaik reflected on his journey, stating, “I never saw myself as a great man; everything I have achieved is a blessing from God. My struggles have shaped me, but my goal has always been to remain honest and contribute to society.” He expressed gratitude to Rajendra Narayan Das for encouraging him to share his life story and to Dr. Hati for his dedication in bringing it to life.

 

D.R. Patnaik’s contributions extend beyond the mining industry, as highlighted by Omkar Mohanty, who credited him with playing a key role in Rourkela’s development. His unwavering commitment to ethical business and philanthropy has cemented his legacy as a leader and changemaker.

 

The event concluded with Patnaik presenting a copy of Dear D.R. to his wife, Indrani Patnaik, as a token of appreciation for her support. The launch was sponsored by Triveni Earthmovers and organized by Indrani Patnaik, D.R. Patnaik, and Prabhakaran, with coordination by KP and Guddi.
