In the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment, an MOU has been signed between the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Department and Skymet Weather Services Pvt Ltd for the implementation of the Weather Information Network Data System (WINDS) project. In order to improve the execution of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), the Indian government introduced the Weather Information Network Data System (WINDS).
According to Dy Chief Minister Singh Deo, the program aims to improve risk management in the insurance, disaster management, and agriculture sectors as well as increase access to meteorological data. To guarantee timely and reliable weather data, Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and Automatic Rain Gauges (ARG) will be placed at key places around the state. At the Gram Panchayat level, automatic rain gauges will be installed. Block-level automatic weather stations will be installed.
The budgetary allocation under PMFBY will supply the state’s portion of the money. A thorough weather monitoring system throughout the state of Odisha will be guaranteed by these facilities. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Revenue & Disaster Management Department (OSDMA) and the Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment (AG&FE) Department. The Cooperation Department will oversee the PMFBY budget, which is where the funds will come from.
According to Singh Deo, farmers’ efficiency would increase if precise meteorological data is made available for improved crop planning, risk assessment, and yield projection. Farmers will be encouraged to grow multiple crops if the PMFBY facilitates effective claim evaluations and risk reduction techniques. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed and exchanged by Jogesh Patil, CEO of Skymet Weather Services Pvt. Ltd., and Subham Saxena, Director of Agriculture & Food Production. Dr. Rajesh Das, Additional Secretary Dr. Ganeswar Jena, and other AG&FE top executives attended the ceremony.
