In order to reduce noise pollution and protect public safety during the impending Cuttack celebrations, the Orissa High Court has issued a number of restrictions. The court banned loud music, electronic gates, and noise-polluting firecrackers throughout the holiday season while considering a public interest lawsuit on civic matters.
The High Court ruled that during pujas, noise levels may not be higher than 65 dB. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and the Cuttack District Magistrate have been directed to closely oversee adherence in order to enforce this. Additionally, each celebration will only be allowed to employ four sound boxes.
In addition, the court has outright banned electric gates and forbidden the building of arches, or torans, on public highways. Before this Sunday’s Dussehra preparatory meeting with puja committees, the District Magistrate has been instructed to finalize the circumstances under which particular gates may be permitted. The restrictions will be in effect throughout Cuttack’s busiest holiday season, from Ganesh Puja to Bali Yatra.
Additionally, each puja pandal must guarantee electrical and fire safety as well as compliance with High Court regulations prior to permissions being granted. Overseeing enforcement throughout the festivities has been assigned to the Cuttack DCP. These actions are taken as the city prepares for the holiday season, when decorations are planned but subject to stringent environmental and safety regulations.
