Odisha CM Unveils Major Plans For Livestock, Poultry, Fisheries Sectors

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched a number of significant measures on Saturday in honor of World Veterinary Day that are intended to improve livestock development, fisheries infrastructure, and animal health services throughout the state. Speaking at a state-level event at the State Convention Center, the Chief Minister officially opened four animal aid centers and 76 new veterinary hospital buildings that cost about ₹100 crore. Additionally, he saw six public sector undertakings sign Memorandums of Understanding to build 219 more veterinary hospitals and diagnostic labs at a cost of ₹177 crore.

A state-level molecular laboratory will be established at Phulnakhara in Cuttack with an investment of approximately ₹10 crore as part of bolstering diagnostic facilities, and a feed testing laboratory will be refurbished with ₹6 crore to guarantee high-quality animal nutrition. Majhi highlighted the fishing industry by building a fish landing center at Kasia, Bhadrak district, and upgrading the Dhamara Fishing Harbour, which cost ₹50 crore.

On the occasion of the golden jubilee of OPOLFED, the Chief Minister launched dedicated marketing centres for brown eggs and indigenous Aseel chicken, aimed at ensuring fair prices for poultry farmers. In a major policy push, Majhi announced the launch of the ₹1,423 crore “Kamadhenu Yojana” for the first time in the state. The scheme is expected to benefit over 15 lakh cattle rearers over five years, offering up to 70 per cent financial assistance for rearing high milk-yielding cows.
