India conducts test-launch of Agni-1 ballistic missile from Odisha

India test-launched short-range Agni-1 ballistic missile from Chandipur, Odisha on Friday. Carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, the launch validated all operational and technical parameters. The launch of Agni-1 came after the May 8 flight trial of an Advanced Agni Missile with multiple targetable re-entry vehicle, launched from the coast of Odisha.

The Agni-1 Ballistic Missile has a range of 700 km to 1200 km and is capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear warheads. It is designed for quick deployment and high mobility.

This missile was developed after the 1999 Kargil War to fill the tactical gap between the 250 km range Prithvi-II and the longer-range Agni-II missile. Developed by DRDO, Agni-1 reinforces India’s minimum credible deterrence capability.
