India exported 1.9 million metric tonnes (MT) of seafood valued at Rs. 73, 890.46 crore (USD 8.46 billion) during FY 2025-26. This records an all time high in volume and value of seafood exports for India despite challenging global market conditions.
Frozen shrimp remained the leading export item. Two of the biggest importers of Indian seafood are the United States and China. Frozen fish emerged as the second-largest exported seafood item, and registered a positive growth trend of 78 per cent in rupee value terms. Exports of frozen squid and cuttlefish also grew.
The European Union remained the third-largest destination in value terms. It was followed by Southeast Asia whose imports were valued at 1348 million. Japan continued to be the fifth-largest importer. The Middle East ranked sixth. The top three ports handling seafood export cargo during FY 2025-26 were Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), and Kochi.
