According to a recent Pew Research Centre survey, a significant 80% of Indians have a favourable opinion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while 62% have a favourable opinion of Rahul Gandhi. A large majority of them believe that India’s international influence has increased significantly in recent years.More than 30,816 adults from India and 23 other countries participated in the study, which ran from February to May. It included information on how people around the world view India’s geopolitical situation, how people feel about Prime Minister Modi, and how people feel about other nations.
A median of 46% of respondents to the study, which was made public ahead of the G20 Summit, reported having favourable opinions of India, compared to 34% of respondents who had negative views. 16% of respondents had no opinions at all.According to the survey, over 68% of Indians think their country’s power has grown globally in recent years, compared to less than a fifth who say the opposite.
India stands out as the only one of the 24 countries polled this year where the majority of people have a favourable opinion of Russia and have faith in Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to the Pew survey.
India is the only other country questioned where a majority have a negative opinion of China. Since May 2020, India and China have been engaged in a border standoff in eastern Ladakh.According to a Pew Research Centre research, “those who support the ruling parties in the National Democratic Alliance (which includes PM Modi’s party, the BJP) are much more likely to say India’s influence is on the rise.”
