COVID-19 Vaccination Not Compulsory For All Health Workers In Odisha

Odisha Government announced that the COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory for all health workers. If any health workers are willing to not get vaccination then no such provision will be applied to them.

CBK Mohanty Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET) stated that there is no compulsory provision that all the health workers will be vaccinated. If any health workers are willing he or she will be vaccinated.  He further stated that the Union Health Secretary informed that the vaccine will be arriving in Odisha in ten days and the vaccination will begin in Odisha in a couple of days. The two COVID-19 vaccines – Covishield and Covaxin – will be given in two doses and the second dose will be determined four weeks after the first dose.

Bijay Panigrahi, Director, Health and Family Welfare also stated that the Centre Government has directed the state government to be prepared for the drive as vaccines will arrive in a few days. But there is no such fixed date for the arrival of the vaccine but Odisha is all set for the vaccination process. The vaccines will be sent directly to the state by the Serum Institute of India and the Bharat Biotech.

He further informed that after the vaccines are accepted they will be kept at the State Vaccine Store in Bhubaneswar. Later the vaccine will be sent to the District Vaccine Stores. As per the number of health workers in the database, the acquisition of vaccines has been ordered. Then the company will decide on the number of vaccines that are to be sent.

Even the district collectors have been asked to proffer the report by 8th January on the session sites where the vaccination will begin.
