Rafael Nadal gets emotional post the last match of Roger Federer

It was only one player who could join Roger Federer on the court when he announced his modest Laver Cup schedule, but it was a classic, timeless “Fedal” moment. As anticipated, Roger wanted to compete in his final encounter with his fierce adversary Rafael Nadal. Between 2004 and 2019, Federer and Nadal faced off 40 times, competing all over the world and pushing one another to be more productive. Because of their mutual regard for one another, Rafa was more than delighted to accompany Roger for his final tennis chapter.

Following the game, Federer gave Nadal and his teammates hugs before crying. At that point, Nadal was also seen by the camera to be in tears.

“It’s been fantastic. Additionally, thank you for the opportunity to play alongside Rafa, be a part of the same squad, and be surrounded by luminaries like Rocket [Rod Laver] and Stefan Edberg. Really, sharing the court with Rafa and the others is great. I didn’t want the outdoors to seem lonely. When they asked me to come out again, it briefly seemed lonely, which wasn’t pleasant. Federer gave an emotional farewell statement on Saturday. “But to say goodbye in a team, I always felt I was a team player at heart,” Federer added.

“Singles doesn’t really do it a lot, but I’ve travelled the world with a team. With them, it has been fantastic. Thank you to everyone who contributed to its success throughout the years. It goes without saying that you guys are incredible to be on a team with Andy [Murray], Thomas [Enqvist], Novak [Djokovic], Matteo [Berrettini], Cam [Norrie], Stefanos [Tsitsipas], Rafa, and Casper [Ruud]—as well as the other team.
