9,495 Rape Charges Have Been Filed In Odisha During the Last Three Years

Tusharkanti Behera, the Minister of State (MoS) for Home, reported in today’s State Assembly that 9,495 rapes had been reported in Odisha during the previous three years. Behera stated that 4,243 murders, 38,329 thefts, and 1692 incidences of dacoity were reported in the State during the past three years in a written response to a question posed by BJP MP Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia.

Behera said that during the last three years, contacts with the police resulted in the arrest of 14 infamous criminals, despite the fact that 17 people have died while in the custody of the police. In his response, he revealed that over the previous three years, police had to use force 59 times to avert uncomfortable situations. According to him, of the aforementioned situations in which the police used their weapons, 57 involved Naxal operations, and in two of those instances, the police had to shoot twice.

Indiscipline was recorded 52 times during meetings and rallies hosted by political parties in the state over the past three years, according to the MoS. He said that the number of police stations in the State has increased to 679. He said the state government has built 36 new police stations while taking into account the population, crime data, law and order situation, and demands of the public representatives.
