An overhead water tank fell at the Burdwan station platform on Wednesday afternoon, injuring 34 people and killing at least three people, according to officials.”A section of the water tank’s sidewall, which was situated above platforms 2 and 3, broke at approximately 12:08 p.m. and fell onto the platform. Few people were hurt, according to an Eastern Railway statement.The wounded were taken to the Burdwan Medical College Hospital, where, according to hospital superintendent Dr. Tapas Kumar Ghosh, three patients were pronounced dead at the scene and 27 others were admitted.
Rescue operations for those trapped beneath the debris were initiated by other passengers, train officials, and security personnel who hurried to the scene.
In January 2020, a section of the portico at the Burdwan train station collapsed, resulting in one fatality and several injuries.Under the Amrit Bharat station initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated a project in August of this year to redevelop the Burdwan station in the East Burdwan district.
