Accused Minor’s Bail Cancelled, Detained To Juvenile Home Till June 5 in Pune Porsche Case

The juvenile justice board (JJB) revoked the bail granted to a teenager on Wednesday who was accused of killing two people on May 19 by speeding in a Porsche, marking a significant development. The minor is now being held for 14 days at a juvenile rehabilitation facility. Three days after the underage kid, the son of a well-known Pune realtor, was given bail just fifteen hours after the accident, the JJB issued an order requiring him to write an essay, cooperate with traffic police, and seek medical attention in order to help him overcome his addiction. This order caused a significant uproar in the public and political spheres.

The state police filed an appeal with a Sessions Court challenging the JJB order, and the court ordered the police to return to the JJB to request a review of the prior order, which was granted on Wednesday. The 17-year-old boy’s attorney, Prashant Patil, announced that his client would now spend a fortnight in a juvenile correctional facility. This move is anticipated to protect the boy’s safety and security, as his family and he have been the target of huge protests in Pune over the last three days.

The police produced hotel liquor bills of Rs 48,000 that were paid in one of the restaurants where the young child and his companions had gone out to party, proving their case that the boy was a drinker. The youngster has committed a really horrible crime, the police added, and even though he is a minor, they still need permission to charge him. In addition, the Pune Police notified the JJB that in addition to Section 304, which deals with culpable homicide that does not amount to murder, the investigators had improved the charges by including a new IPC Section 185 in the chargesheet.

In a related incident, the owner and management of two restaurants where the youth brigade had celebrated on Saturday and Sunday night, as well as the boy’s father, Vishal S. Agarwal, were detained and placed under two days of police custody. Punekars were infuriated by the deadly accident, the claimed preferential treatment given to the young boy, and the JJB’s release being granted in less than 15 hours. On Wednesday afternoon, there were widespread protests and a “ink attack” against the boy’s father, Vishal Agarwal.
