Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met with Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday to discuss the status of Vedanta Limited’s proposed projects in Odisha, which are valued at over ₹1 lakh crore. The goal of the discussion was to accelerate the company’s next industrial initiatives in the state. Considered one of the biggest investors in Odisha, Vedanta has planned significant investments in the mining, electricity, aluminum, and downstream industrial sectors.
A downstream aluminum park, integrated coal and bauxite-based businesses, a 3 million tonne aluminum smelter and 6000 MW power plant in Dhenkanal district, and a 6 million tonne alumina refinery in Rayagada district are among the proposed developments. Officials claim that the projects would greatly improve Odisha’s industrial ecology and establish the state as a key hub for the production of aluminum worldwide. The downstream aluminum park that is being built close to the proposed smelter will produce cutting-edge aluminum products for industries including defense, electric cars, and aerospace.
Additionally, the measures are anticipated to foster the expansion of thousands of MSMEs in the state and provide lakhs of job possibilities. The Chief Minister stated during the meeting that the investments will give young people in Odisha significant opportunity and support balanced regional development, especially in central and southern Odisha. He gave authorities instructions to make sure that construction started on schedule and to assess the projects’ progress every fifteen days. Majhi said that the projects will increase the state’s infrastructure and economic activity while hastening Odisha’s transition to a $500 billion economy by 2036.
