After Afghanistan shocked Pakistan in the ODI World Cup, Ramiz Raja began a new onslaught on Babar Azam.After Afghanistan’s surprising victory over Pakistan left the Green Army on the verge of an early exit from the 2023 World Cup in India, prominent Pakistani figures questioned the superstar Babar Azam’s ability to lead. Many former Pakistani cricketers, including Wasim Akram, Misbah-ul-Haq, Ramiz Raja, and Shoaib Akhtar, have blamed Babar for the Green Army’s disappointing performance at the ICC World Cup.
Babar is renowned for orchestrating Pakistan’s historic victory over India in a World Cup match two years ago. Pakistan competed in the T20 World Cup final in Australia last year under Babar’s direction. The top batsman had a tough half-century against India in the tense One Day International (ODI) World Cup match between the two longtime foes. In Pakistan’s last game against Afghanistan, Babar also scored 74 runs off 92 balls. His performance did not, however, help Pakistan, who were thrashed by Afghanistan by eight wickets.
Former cricketer Ramiz recalled Pakistan’s performance under Babar and said that against Afghanistan, players appeared “scared and underconfident.” Giant killers Afghanistan had never defeated Pakistan in the 50-over format prior to their surprising victory at Chepauk. “Pakistan is dealing with a number of issues. Babar Azam has to sharpen his tactical skills a lot. The ball was being reversed by Hasan Ali towards the end of the innings. Pakistan desperately needed wickets, and Hasan Ali was on the verge of being dismissed. Ramiz questioned the necessity of bowling a spinner from the other end on his YouTube channel.
