Alert For Gmail Users: Millions Of Accounts Will Be Deleted

There are roughly 127 million Gmail users in India, accounting for nearly 85% of all email users. Users of Gmail, take note: your account may soon be disabled!

Gmail users have an urgent deadline from Google. Google recently announced that, beginning in December 2023, millions of accounts may be deleted. The accounts that have not been used for at least two years will be targeted by the tech giant. Those who frequently use Gmail, Docs, Calendar, and Photos don’t need to worry—active accounts won’t be impacted by the update.

But, if Google accounts have lain idle for a long time, it’s imperative that you act quickly. Google said, “We may delete an account and its contents if it has not been used or signed into for at least two years.” This includes information from Google Workspace, which consists of Google Photos, Meet, Calendar, Docs, Drive, and Gmail. Due to the fact that inactive, outdated accounts are more vulnerable to online attacks, the new policy aims to increase security.

To reduce the chance of deletion, Google has advised users to exercise caution and adhere to certain guidelines. Google will notify the user’s recovery email and account email address multiple times before deleting their account. Google emphasized that accounts that are forgotten or left unattended frequently use old or repurposed passwords, do not have two-factor authentication, and are subject to fewer security checks. According to Google’s analysis, accounts that are left unattended have a lower likelihood of having two-step verification enabled by at least ten times, which makes them more appealing to scammers and fraudsters globally. Google is taking preventative action to shield users from possible security lapses and make the internet a safer place.
