She claimed in her plea that she was denied the right to counsel with any attorney of her choosing to represent her during the remand proceedings.Neelam Azad, who is accused of a security violation in Parliament, filed a motion for immediate release with the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.Azad contested the validity of the remand order issued on December 21. In her plea, she claimed that only 29 hours after her arrest had she been given access to a lawyer of her choosing to represent her during the remand process.
While pursuing further education in Hisar, Azad was one of the six individuals detained by the police in connection with the security breach in the Lok Sabha.During the protests by the farmers, Neelam Azad, a 37-year-old lady from Ghaso Khurd village, was reportedly arrested along with the mother of wrestler Sakshi Malik and farmer leader Sikkim Nain.Neelam’s brother Ramniwas told PTI about her arrest, saying, “I got a call from my elder brother to switch on the TV immediately.” Neelam was detained in Delhi, he informed me.Ramniwas reported that a few days ago, his sister, who had passed the National Eligibility Test (NET), visited the area. She did not, however, bring up the Parliament protest during her visit. “I spoke to my daughter this morning and she asked me to regularly take my medicines,” Neelam’s mother stated. We had no idea she had travelled to Delhi.”More than half a year prior to her detention, Azad, who was unemployed, was living in a paid guest house in Delhi and assiduously studying for competitive exams. Azad’s father is a confectioner and she is a member of the Kumhar community. Her brothers are also engaged in the village’s milk sales business.
