The Government of Odisha released an upgraded Safety Module on Odisha Yatri, making it India’s first state-owned comprehensive Safety and Mobility platform, in a significant step towards enhancing citizen safety through technology and digital innovation. By combining transportation and public safety services on a single, reliable platform, the program demonstrates the State’s dedication to creating a safer, smarter, and more connected Odisha.
Odisha Yatri, which is already extensively utilized by the public for daily transportation through services like auto-rickshaw reservations, taxi services, Ama Bus information and tickets, and boating services, will soon offer a full range of personal safety features. Through real-time location-based notifications during situations, users may request fast assistance thanks to the recently established Safety Module’s integration with Odisha Police and the national emergency response system, 112.
Speaking at the event, Pravati Parida, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Women & Child Development, Mission Shakti, and Tourism, stated that the government’s primary concern is still ensuring the safety of its citizens. She underlined that every person should have access to dependable safety assistance whenever needed and underscored how technology may improve the accessibility, responsiveness, and inclusivity of public services.
A number of cutting-edge elements that improve personal security are included in the Safety Module. Users may immediately transmit emergency alerts and their current position to Odisha Police and reliable contacts by using the One-Tap SOS function. By merely shaking an Android handset or pressing the back of an iPhone, users may request assistance through gesture-triggered SOS activation, guaranteeing support even in situations where instant access to the screen is not feasible. Real-time location sharing with loved ones and reliable contacts is also made possible by the platform, and further capabilities like ambient audio recording and an emergency siren offer more assistance in an emergency. The Safety Module is offered in both Odia and English to guarantee greater accessibility.
With the launch of the Safety Module, Odisha Yatri evolves beyond a mobility application into a citizen-centric digital platform that combines transportation and safety services within a unified ecosystem. Looking ahead, the Government envisions Odisha Yatri becoming India’s first state-owned Super App by integrating a wider range of mobility, safety and citizen services. Future additions will include intercity bus services, digital ticketing for major tourism destinations and other public service offerings.
