To improve bilateral relations, Odisha Chief Secretary Anu Garg met with a 13-person delegation from Japan’s Tottori Prefecture, headed by Tottori Prefecture Chief Secretary Toshiaki Endo. Long-term collaboration opportunities in investment, industrial development, human resources, education, tourism, culture, and technology were explored during the conference.
Garg gave the team a briefing on the rich economic and Buddhist traditions of Odisha. According to her, there are centuries-old historical and cultural connections between Odisha and Japan. She urged Japanese businesses to invest in Odisha in areas such as green energy, cutting-edge technology and research, skill development, the “Skill in Odisha” program, development of Odisha’s long coastline, full utilization of deep-sea fisheries resources for the blue economy, and small, medium, and large-scale industries, citing the two nations’ expanding trade relations.
The welcoming speech was given by Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Industries, Housing and Information, and Public Relations. He said that Tottori Prefecture and Odisha have similar goals of inclusive growth, innovation, and sustainable development, and that their collaboration will benefit both provinces’ long-term development. Odisha’s industrialization, port-based economy, natural resources, green energy, talented human resources, investor-friendly legislation, and favorable business climate were all underlined by Sharma.
He expressed optimism that new prospects for international manufacturing and sustainable industrial growth would arise from the combination of Odisha’s resources and Japan’s cutting-edge engineering, technology, and innovation skills. A planned friendship agreement between the Tottori Prefecture and the Government of Odisha was also discussed at the conference. Small and medium-sized businesses, the interchange of skilled labor, the development of job opportunities, student exchange programs, educational collaboration, and the strengthening of tourist sector trade between the two states are all part of the planned cooperation.
The governor of Tottori Prefecture is expected to travel to Odisha in November, it was reported. Toshiaki Endo, the chief secretary of Tottori, welcomed the plan and stated that it will expedite the joint development of Odisha and Tottori while also strengthening the relationship between Japan and India. Additionally, he indicated that he would like to create long-term resource-related collaboration with Odisha.
