In honor of International Tiger Day, Nandankanan Zoological Park held a number of awareness, educational, and conservation events with the goal of advancing tiger preservation and fostering more public involvement in animal conservation. As the event’s chief guest, Odisha Forest, Environment, and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia emphasized the value of working together to protect tigers and their natural habitats.
Speaking to the crowd, the minister stated that International Tiger Day is a crucial opportunity to increase public awareness of the need to save tigers and bolster conservation efforts. He said that via education, community involvement, and conservation initiatives, Nandankanan has been instrumental in promoting the idea of peaceful coexistence between people and animals. A signature drive and a tiger conservation promise were launched at the start of the festivities, asking guests to renew their commitment to protecting India’s national animal and its environment. Additionally, the zoo launched a mobile awareness program called “One Question-One Answer-One Prize,” which uses interactive prizes and quizzes to teach visitors about tiger conservation.
Nandankanan tiger caretakers were honored for their contributions to animal conservation as part of the program. Additionally honored were the winners of a Sit and Draw competition held to commemorate the event. Throughout the day, a variety of educational events were held, such as storytelling sessions for kids, interactive sessions with animal keepers on tiger care and conservation, and a mini zoo-keeper program that gave students practical knowledge of tiger biology, behavior, and conservation.
While zoo volunteers performed street plays emphasizing the need of preserving the species, experts gave talks on tiger conservation. One of the zoo’s main draws was a selfie station with a tiger motif. Students, wildlife enthusiasts, conservation specialists, tourists, Nandankanan Zoological Park Director Sanat Kumar, Deputy Director Pradeep Mirase, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), and Chief Wildlife Warden Prem Kumar Jha all took part in the day-long event.
