Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya has assumed charge as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of NLC India Limited on September 17, 2026, at the company’s Corporate Office in Neyveli.
A seasoned professional with nearly three decades of experience, Dr. Acharya has worked extensively across the power, mining and infrastructure sectors. Before taking over as CMD, he served as Director (Finance) of NLC India Limited. Over the course of his career, he has also held key positions in leading organisations including GRDICO, NTPC and Tata Power.
Dr. Acharya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honours), LLB, Master of Commerce and MBA, along with professional memberships in the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He also holds a Ph.D. from Utkal University and has completed a Management Development Programme in Strategic Finance from IIM Lucknow.
His professional experience spans power generation, transmission, distribution, mining and metro infrastructure. He has contributed to major infrastructure initiatives, including the Phase-II project of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, with an estimated project value exceeding ₹63,000 crore.
During his tenure at NLC India, Dr. Acharya has spearheaded initiatives in digital transformation and governance reforms, including ERP modernisation, centralisation of finance functions, AI-enabled systems and the introduction of a Vendor Invoice Management System. He has also played a role in securing government approvals and advancing initiatives related to coal and critical mineral blocks and renewable energy projects.
As NLC India moves towards its ambitious growth roadmap, targeting more than 20 GW of power generation capacity and over 100 MTPA of mining capacity by 2030, Dr. Acharya is set to lead the company’s next phase of expansion and transformation.
A native of Kendrapara, Odisha, Dr. Acharya’s extensive experience and strategic perspective are expected to guide NLC India’s journey towards strengthening its position as a Maharatna enterprise.
