At the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW)-2026, which will take place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 22 to 26, Odisha is presenting its integrated water management projects, climate-resilient agricultural methods, and irrigation infrastructure. The focus of the event is “Climate Resilient Water Management,” and Odisha, a Partner State, is presenting their interventions. Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil opened the Odisha Pavilion.
A special session on “Joint Indo-Danish Solutions for Sustainable Water Management” was co-chaired by Shubha Sarma, principal secretary of the Department of Water Resources, and Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen, Danish ambassador to India. Sarma emphasized the potential for collaboration between Odisha and Denmark in areas such as managing coastal erosion, enhancing coastal resilience, and utilizing Danish knowledge and technologies for sustainable water management.
Initiatives to increase water security, climate resilience, and irrigation efficiency are highlighted in the State showcase. These include climate-resilient rice seed and pulse varieties, automatic wetting and drying systems, integrated rice-fish farming, and soil moisture sensors. The Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA) has a specific model that shows interventions for 538 small irrigation tanks spread over 15 districts. The project combines better irrigation, climate-resilient agriculture, fisheries development, and livelihood support with the rehabilitation of water bodies.
The Kanupur Irrigation Project model highlights the State’s efforts to maximize available water resources and bolster long-term water security while showcasing water storage, intra-subbasin water transfer, and contemporary water conveyance systems. The pavilion’s digital Success Stories platform showcases accomplishments from various regions of Odisha with an emphasis on the socioeconomic effects of water-related interventions on farmers, communities, and other recipients.
