ASI Completes Laser Scanning Survey Of Konark Sun Temple

In advance of the area’s beautifying project, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) conducted laser scanning scans of Puri’s Konark Temple and its surrounding environs on Monday.

The GPRS laser scanning survey was carried out by a three-person team from the National Geographical Research Institute (NGRI), who were joined by the ASI, Puri Circle, Superintendent, DB Garnayak, and Deputy Engineer Chittaranjan Das. To find out if the Konark Temple has any hidden chambers or trash beneath it, the 13th-century shrine’s sanctum sanctorum and underground were also examined.

Before the beautification work started, the team also conducted an underground study of the temple’s environs.

Dr. AK Pandey, Senior Scientist, and Scientists Nilesh Kumar Jaiswal and Satish Chandra Verma made up the team. According to Garnayak, the state government requested that the study be conducted. He continued, “After receiving reports of the GPRS laser scanning surveys, the beautification work around the temple will begin.”
