Days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives, India strongly condemned Pakistan at the United Nations, calling it a “rogue state” and accusing it of openly supporting terrorism.
Speaking at the launch of the UN’s Victims of Terrorism Associations Network, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Yojna Patel, highlighted a recent television interview in which Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif allegedly admitted to the country’s history of supporting, training, and funding terrorist organisations. Patel said the remarks came as no surprise, stating, “This open confession surprises no one and exposes Pakistan as a rogue state fuelling global terrorism and destabilising the region. The world can no longer turn a blind eye.”
India also expressed its appreciation for the global support extended in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, which marked the highest civilian toll since the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008. Patel emphasized India’s long-standing experience with cross-border terrorism and the devastating impact such acts have on individuals, families, and communities.
She further criticized Pakistan for misusing international forums to spread propaganda and make unfounded accusations against India, asserting that such attempts only further damage the credibility of those engaging in them.
India’s remarks drew attention to the continued threat of terrorism and the need for international accountability for states that enable or sponsor it.
